So, I signed up for a 5K Color Run on Team Atticus with my friend Cindy...I'm really excited, but also a little nervous. I've never run more than a mile at a time and that was way back in high school. Speaking of high school, I pulled out my cool Nikes and decided to use those for my first day of training, and as you can see below, I think it's time to retire them:) About half-way through my walk/run, I felt like something was stuck on the bottom of my shoe on my heel, but wouldn't come off--turns out, the whole bottom was separating from the shoe, and then when I got done with my run and was stretching, the sole actually came off of one of my shoes. So, back to running...I found an app for my phone that trains you for a 5K in 8 weeks--starting out with walking/running intervals that work you up to running the whole time. The first work-out was Tuesday, and I was nervous--it sounds silly, but I tossed and turned all night and had weird dreams. I got up early, before the kids, and headed out. The work-out went great, except for the shoes--it felt good to get out and get moving. I was so incredibly sore the next day--shin splints--which I had playing soccer in high school. I did some stretches and ran in better shoes the next two times and they haven't been hurting--thank goodness. Anyways, I never thought I'd like running, but I do, and I'm excited to get in shape and actually do something for me personally. It feels good to accomplish something, and each time I've worked-out, I feel like I have more stamina and can run longer the next time.
So fun. We are also doing the color run. I have heard from friends who did it last year that you can't really run the whole thing. They trained to run and found that the color stations slow everything down to a walk and kinda bottle-neck. I am also looking forward to a "run" so I hope that isn't the case! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing it for my friend and her little boy...so it at least gives me the motivation to train--I'm not super serious or competitive, so we'll see! I think it will be fun either way!
DeleteI'm secretly thrilled that we "might" have to walk! LOL... :) I am also supporting a team for a little boy Brittany keeps that has a heart condition. Look for us!
