N. as most of you know, can be a bit cautious when it comes to starting something new. So on the first day of school, he was nervous. I asked him if he was excited, and he kept saying, "Mom, I'm not excited" the whole way there. He met his teacher, Mrs. Hrera a few weeks before, and wouldn't say a word, but on the way home had a meltdown because she had said that he couldn't wear his crocs to school--they want the kids to wear tennis shoes so they can run and play, etc. He loves his crocs, and once he has his routine, it's hard to change him. I told him we would go shopping for new shoes, and he at least stopped crying and asked if he could get Lightning McQueen light up shoes. I said we would look around (I'm not a fan of character shoes). We went to quite a few stores, looking for the perfect pair. In the end, he had to settle for a pair with a football, soccer, and a basketball that light up. Truthfully, he tried on a pair of lightning mcqueen shoes that lit up, but they were bulky, and he said they were not comfy. The first day, it was a bit of a fight for him to put on the tennis shoes, but now he's happy to wear them, but of course only on school days. He also brings his crocs in the car so he can change after school:) So, the first day, it took a good 10 minutes, for him to actually sit down at the table and do his work. I sat with him while he completed it, then he could choose a center, and finally let me leave. When I picked him up, he said he had so much fun, that he got 3 skittles, and that they were making cookies next time. I was so relieved that he had fun. Now he walks right in, doesn't even hug me usually--he's just so excited to get his day started. He also really likes eating lunch at school, but makes sure I give him the same thing he eats at home--PB & Jelly, goldfish, and grapes.
After the first day of school, I surprised him with some Lightning McQueen stuffed animals--they were sitting on the couch waiting for him when he got home!
He wanted to take a picture on the 2nd day of school, and it turned out adorable, and he actually got a haircut in between--he's so handsome after his haircuts.
