A few of my friends have posted about how they met their valentine, so I thought I'd share a little bit about my sweetheart...I moved to Arlington to start college in 2002. The first time we met was in September at a church event--a singles ward family home evening. S. was my home teacher(in our church, members are assigned to visit other members). He didn't know who I was until that night since I was new, so he asked for my phone number, so he could come visit. The only thing I really remember about him that night was he was wearing a referee shirt--random I know. At the time, I had a boyfriend back home, so S. truly was just visiting me as a fellow church member and friend. A few months later, I had a Friday night off of work. I knew there were church dances every Friday around the DFW area, so I thought it would be fun to go. I thought I might call S. and see if he knew where it was. Well turns out, earlier that morning, someone on campus told me where it was, but I decided to call S. anyways to ask him where it was. He tells me that he and his brother would gladly pick me up. He shows up without his brother, because his brother was running late. So, we go to the dance, but S. is still under the impression that I'm dating someone else. As we're dancing towards the end of the dance, I told him I was no longer dating someone, and he started dancing a little bit closer:) He took me out for oreo cookie ice cream shakes(he must of known already that ice cream is the key to my heart:), and then we hung out at my apartment, with my crazy roommates who were carving pumpkins. We started hanging out pretty much every day after that, and were boyfriend/girlfriend by Monday(the dance was Friday). I probably left out some details, because S. will tell you I have a horrible memory, but that's how we met and started dating! Anyways, he is truly my best friend. I love him so very much, and want to thank him for putting up with all of my drama.
Our first Valentine's Day, I ended up working really late at Pei Wei. Much to my surprise when I arrived at my apartment, S. was there and had cooked a fancy dinner for us--my roommates had let him in. A few days later he brought me a ton of random Valentine's stuff(heart pillows, teddy bears, candles, and a pillow shaped like lips) that he bought at Target for super cheap. N. now sleeps with one of the teddy bears that I got that long ago.
We were engaged in March and married in August of 2003, so we've been married 6 1/2 years and have known each other for about 7 1/2 years. These have truly been the happiest years of my life so far, and I'm grateful I get to spend the rest of my life and forever with my Valentine!
My favorite picture of S. from our wedding day...
What a great story! I love it. You two are great together. I was in the clerk's office today and there is a drawing of S hanging up there (by a very talented young artist) and I thought how much your little family is missed here.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. Thank heavens for you guys - we have sure loved hanging out with you! Living in NY would not be NEARLY as much fun if you weren't here!
