Spring Break with my family

My mom, dad, and little sister came to visit us.  We tried our best to show them the city despite the major rain storm that lasted 4 days.  Luckily it let up for the last day they were here and we were able to enjoy a trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with delightful spring weather--we lucked out especially since the tickets had been booked since January.

Sites we saw include...Times Square, Toys R Us, M&M World, Hershey's Store, Rockefeller Center, American Girl store, Broadway theaters--my parents saw Mamma Mia, American Museum of  Natural History, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall St., 9/11 site, Central Park, Chinatown, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and views of the city--including the Empire State & Chrysler Building--we were all worn out by the end from walking so much.

Yummy food that we enjoyed...John's pizzeria, Crumbs(cupcakes), Chinese take-out, Bleecker St. Pizza, Cafe Habana--the best grilled corn, frozen yogurt, shakes at Stand4(because the famous Shake Shack closed at 9 and we got there at 9:30), Halal food, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and lots of other junk.

Saturday night, my dad and I decided to go get a treat from au bon pain.  After 9pm, their pastries are half-off.  We get outside and it's raining harder than we expected, so my dad says let's run.  He starts running around the corner with me following.  I was laughing at myself--we were running in the pouring rain with no umbrellas.  Then we get there, and apparently they decided to close early--it was only 9:30 and they always stay open until 10.  My dad gets it stuck in his head that he wants something, so we run up 5 blocks to another store that is also closed, followed by a trip to a grocery store to get chocolate milk in which they had run out.  At this point, we were completely drenched and headed back to the apartment.  My dad still determined to get something then took an umbrella and walked to a different grocery store and picked up some donuts--my crazy daddy!

It was so much fun to have my family come to the city.  N. loved playing with McKenna, and McKenna loved playing with N.  When I asked her what her favorite thing was about NYC, she said playing with N.  My mom told me that when they were leaving to catch their cab back to the airport, McKenna started sobbing because she didn't want to leave--she also cried when the airplane took off and when they were driving home.  She is so sweet--I love her and miss her too.
